            W3C Fellows are employees of Member organizations who join the W3C Team for specific projects and usually a predetermined duration. W3C encourages Member organizations to participate.

            From time to time, W3C looks for motivated people to join the W3C Team. The Team provides technical leadership about Web technologies, organizes and manages W3C activities to reach goals within practical constraints (such as resources available), and communicates with the Members and the public about the Web and W3C technologies. W3C is unique among standards bodies for its full-time staff of Web experts.

            Privacy/Security Technology Executive Architect

            The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) is looking for a new, full-time senior staff member to be located at Keio University in Fujisawa, where W3C has its Japan Host.

            This is an opportunity for a unique individual to take a lead role in managing the direction of the W3C in Japan, and to be a key part of the technical team responsible for the design of the next generation World Wide Web, and to lead a variety of industry and user groups toward the development of technologies that enhance the functionality of the Web. As the recognized leader for the technical development of the World Wide Web, we are seeking an individual with both Web technology and project management experience, an excellent understanding of the Web industry, having exceptional management skills, and enthusiasm for the mission and spirit of W3C.


            The individual will be responsible for engaging with industry and academic leaders on web security and privacy issues, identifying and cultivating new proposals for standardization to improve web security and privacy, stakeholder outreach and consensus-building. The individual will also work within W3C standards groups to edit specifications, develop change proposals, monitor progress, produce tests, respond to clarification requests, bugs and issues and negotiate with ministries/stakeholders.


            • Ability to think strategically about web security and privacy issues as they fit in the global web ecosystem
            • Ability to lead security and privacy issues to resolution, preferably through an academic background in Informatics
            • Background in computer science and software engineering
            • Experience in global-standardization development
            • An understanding of the web industry and its market, practices, and product development cycles
            • Familiarity with up-to-date web technologies, such as HTML, CSS, Web APIs, and scripting
            • Experience with the development of open information technology standards and writing test cases for browser technologies is desired
            • Familiarity with specific security and privacy technologies and methodologies, including Web Authentication, identity management, cryptography, and privacy-preserving anonymization is desired
            • Experience in a similar global community and/or corporation
            • Ability to work remotely and effectively
            • A Team player with good communication / interpersonal / management skills
            • Human relations skills and the ability to build consensus among disparate groups
            • Strong writing skills required, with past experiences in editing technical specifications a plus
            • Good written and spoken competency in the working language of the W3C, i.e., English, as well as in Japanese
            • Knowledge and practical experience of other languages and cultures is a plus
            • Ability to travel internationally

            Work starts 1 April, 520彩票.

            The position is based at Shonan Fujisawa Campus of Keio University, 5322 Endo, Fujisawa, Kanagawa, Japan. There will be regular international travel including to W3C Host sites, and regular remote work with Working Groups and the W3C Global staff.
